Job Title:  Speech Language Pathologist – Outpatient Clinic

Location:  CP Rochester – Winton Road Facility, Rochester, NY

Salary:  $53,000.00 – 70,000.00 per year commensurate with experience

Employment:    This is a full-time 40 hours per week position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during business hours. Evening work may be required as job duties demand.

Summary/Objective:  Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of speech and/or language disorders of the individuals enrolled in or referred to CP Rochester.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  2. New York State License in Speech Pathology or be eligible for a New York State License in Speech Pathology.
  3. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association preferred.
  4. Current knowledge of the principles and methods of prevention, assessment, and intervention for people with communication and swallowing disorders, including consideration of anatomical/physiological, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural correlates.
  5. Experience working with individuals with development disabilities preferred.
  6. Must have demonstrated excellent listening skills.
  7. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  9. Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  10. Must have demonstrated commitment to performing job duties and tasks at a high level of performance.

Essential Functions

  1. Promotes the CP Rochester and the Happiness House Vision, Mission and Philosophy.
  2. Upholds NYS Education Law/Practice Act as relating to the practice of speech therapy.
  3. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  4. Performs appropriate evaluations to individuals to determine the need for speech therapy services.
  5. Ensures valid prescriptions are written for all individuals on caseload.
  6. Carries out treatment plans developed after evaluation, in clinic setting for the Article 16 and Article 28 outpatient clinics as well as the Preschool or School Programs, as necessary.
  7. Available to consult with other professionals such as teachers, habilitation staff, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate, to facilitate delivery of coordinated quality services to individuals.
  8. Works with legal guardians, house staff or parents as integral members of the interdisciplinary team in the clinic, day habilitation or school setting, as needed.
  9. Communicates with physicians and other medical personnel in order to facilitate evaluation and treatment of individuals.
  10. Completes all paperwork in accordance with agency, program and department policies/guidelines.
  11. Ensures knowledge of paperwork, Electronic Health Record and applicable Medicare and Medicaid regulations in order to provide appropriate documentation.
  12. Attends all team, discipline and staff meetings as designated.
  13. Maintains treatment area in an orderly manner to ensure safety.
  14. Advises Supervisor of Clinical staff of need for replacement of old or ordering of new equipment.
  15. Meets with interdisciplinary team and Program Supervisor as needed to review status and need of program modifications for individuals on caseload.
  16. Establishes short- and long-term objectives for each individual.
  17. Provides individual and/or group therapy at various certified sites to individuals exhibiting communication disorders, upon receipt of a physician’s prescription, as required. Provides speech language therapy services at off-site locations as assigned.
  18. Provides in-service education to employees of CP, caretakers, and other interested groups as requested.
  19. Participates in program planning, development, research, and evaluation under the direction of the department supervisor.
  20. Participates in supervised field placement for university affiliated speech language therapy students as assigned. 
  21. Adheres to Agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  22. Participates on committees, attends conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  23. Performs other duties at the discretion of the President/CEO or his/her designee.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.  May supervise a Speech Language Pathologist intern from an accredited institution periodically.

Work Environment: This job operates in an outpatient clinic program environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to pull and push wheelchairs up to *250 – 300 pounds – maximum weight required.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, but employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies. Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
