Function of Position:
The Information Literacy & AI Librarian will lead efforts in evaluating and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into library services, instruction, and research support. This role will focus on enhancing students' information literacy skills, including fostering ethical AI use, and developing resources that empower faculty and students in navigating the evolving digital landscape. Additionally, the librarian will be a resource to support the integration of information literacy and AI competencies into the curriculum in support of the SUNY General Education Information Literacy Core Competency.
This position will also serve as liaison librarian to one of the Schools at the college (such as School of Business and Entrepreneurial Studies), based on the candidate's expertise and the library's needs. The librarian acts as the main point of contact between members of the School (faculty, students, and staff) and the library, and is responsible for leading the library's engagement, teaching and learning, collection development, and research services for that School.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops and delivers information literacy instruction with an emphasis on AI literacy and ethical AI use.Collaborates with faculty to integrate AI tools and information literacy skills into curricula, aligning with the SUNY General Education AI and Information Literacy competencies.Provides research assistance and guidance on AI-related topics, information literacy, and emerging technologies.Leads workshops and training sessions on AI applications in academic research, critical evaluation of AI-generated content, and responsible AI engagement.Stays current on developments in AI and digital literacy.Curates, assess, and manages library resources, including digital tools and databases that support AI and information literacy initiatives.Promotes ethical AI use and academic integrity through outreach, programming, and campus partnerships.Collaborates with IT and other institutional departments to integrate AI-driven solutions into library services.Represents the Library in campus-wide discussions of AI.General Librarian Responsibilities:
Collaborates with library colleagues and faculty in assigned liaison departments to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum.Supports the library's general information literacy instruction program; works with faculty in assigned liaison departments to support information literacy outcomes in face-to-face, web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses.Contributes to a repository of reusable, adaptable learning objects (i.e., subject and course guides, instructional video, etc.) to support information literacy efforts.Provides reference and research support services, both face-to-face and virtually.Collaborates with departmental colleagues on library-wide assessment efforts.Participates in MCC, local, state, and national committees.Occasional night and weekend coverage required.Other duties as assigned. Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.Experience in information literacy instruction and digital research skills.Strong understanding of AI applications in education, research, and digital literacy.Familiarity with ethical considerations in AI, including bias, misinformation, and academic integrity.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an academic library, preferably in a community college setting.Knowledge of AI tools such as ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms.Experience with learning management systems (e.g., D2L) and instructional technologies.Background in digital scholarship, open educational resources (OER), or AI-assisted research methodologies.Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $59,800 to $67,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
