Process Development Engineer Job Summary:

Develops and improves manufacturing processes by organization and development of product and manufacturing methods. Use technical knowledge and industry expertise to review existing manufacturing processes and plan cost-effective production process within a business.

Process Development Engineer Job Duties:

  • Develops manufacturing processes for components designed by Mechanical Engineering; Using Pro-Engineer CAD/CAM software creates CNC programs; Develops product structure of components for production control.
  • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting manufacturing programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, machine build requirements, and equipment capability.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and Nonconformance trends. .
  • Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with Gleason Business Principles – Processes and Core Behaviors.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
  • Maintains product and process data base by writing computer programs; entering data.
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding operators.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • BS Degree in engineering required: or five years manufacturing process experience will be considered with accompanied Associate Degree
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with high precision machining and manufacturing processes
  • Past experience dealing with complexity of components and tolerances
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of CAD processes (CREO) preferred
  • Experience with ERP (SAP) systems for data analysis and data entry
  • Substantial understanding of ANSI 14.5M/ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimension and Tolerance methodologies also the supporting metrology methods and equipment
  • A strong understanding of raw materials
  • Knowledge of cutting tools and cutting tool properties
  • 2 years minimum experience utilizing CAM utilities
  • Strong mathematical skills – ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume also fervent aptitude in both trigonometry and geometry
  • Understanding of P-logic for Renishaw® Probing
  • Past experience of 4 Axis milling and Dynamic offsetting
  • Experience utilizing FANUC and Mazak control interface desired
  • Understanding of post-processing

Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
