In support of Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY)’s mission, RESTORE Domestic Violence Advocate (DV Adv) has responsibility for providing crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and stalking. They assist with the filing of court petitions and maintaining relationships with community agencies. This position is based at our confidential office located in Wyoming County and requires travel to all five counties to provide on call services.

Essential Functions
  • 50% Provides client services including crisis intervention and short-term counseling to primary and secondary victims of domestic violence in person and/or by phone, case management, and advocacy with community partners
  • 35% Provides personal and criminal justice advocacy and accompaniment for victims and significant others during hospital/health center procedures, police and or court proceedings as well as accompaniment at Family Court helping file family offense petitions such as Orders of Protection, Violations of Orders of Protection and Custody Orders
  • 5% Works with partner agencies including but not limited to: Department of Social Services, Family Court, Law Enforcement, and the Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office to ensure client needs are met
  • 5% Attends the County Multi-disciplinary Team meetings including Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and Domestic Assault Response Team (DART) members
  • 5% Provides referral information and support to clients, other professionals and appropriate community agencies

Other Accountability Activities

  • Must sign up for On Call shifts at a minimum of two shifts per month including one weeknight and one weekend 24-hour shift on a rotating basis with all staff, including holidays, providing coverage to all Counties RESTORE serves including Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming
  • Provides accurate documentation of all services provided and take responsibility to report these as required on a monthly and quarterly basis to major funding sources
  • Stays current on best practices by attending relevant educational conferences and seminars
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department
  • Participates in affiliate initiatives and represents PPCWNY in a professional manner within appropriate forums, coalitions, etc., and uses those opportunities to increase participation in PPCWNY programs and to further agency goals
  • Shows respect to all internal and external customers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints and needs in areas such as race, gender, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation, and others
Requirements

Applicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):

 

Education—

  • Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Services, Social Work, Health Education, Criminal Justice, or related field

Experience—

  • Two years paid work in Human Services and/or one-year paid Crisis, Sexual Assault or Domestic Violence work required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must successfully complete sexual assault/domestic violence advocacy program training during the first two months of onboarding
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid NYS driver’s license not in jeopardy of being revoked, ability to respond to emergency calls within thirty minutes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sexual violence, domestic violence and stalking dynamics and effects, public awareness, and crisis intervention services
  • Excellent skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to set goals and create timelines for implementation; excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Able to work independently on behalf of survivors, stay survivor centered while working collaboratively with coworkers and colleagues

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position; regular schedule will be 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend duties, as well as on call responsibilities.

Benefits & Compensation
At PPCWNY, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency. In alignment with these efforts, the pay for this position ranges from $19.00 to $22.06/hour. Actual compensation will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by law.
