Overview
St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities
· Performs all security functions and patrols (35%) · Enforce university regulations (5%) · Provide aid and assistance in emergencies (2%) · Respond to, investigate and prepare reports on criminal complaints (3%) · Fire alarms, injuries, accidents and illnesses (2%) · Lock and unlock campus buildings as required (5%) · Provide traffic/parking control of vehicles on campus (5%) · Provide security escorts to students, staff and faculty when requested (3%) · Acts as supervisor in absence of Shift Supervisor (35%) · Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or department (5%)
Education / Experience
AAS degree in Criminal Justice preferred or combination of experience and education. Minimum of 2 years of experience in security/public safety preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be New York State Security Guard trained and registered and must possess a valid NYS Driver License with minimal convictions.
Competencies / Skills
Must have working knowledge of the security function as well as New York State Penal and Traffic laws and be familiar with approved safety and security standards for university security.
Supervision of Employees
Supervises security officers, dispatchers and student workers in the absence of the shift supervisor.
Work Environment
Patrols, inspections and investigations require frequent in and out door routines in all types of weather conditions; Patrols are conducted on foot, vehicle, or bicycle; possible exposure to hazardous materials, severe weather conditions and contact with unstable persons and individuals who are violating laws and regulations is possible.
