Job Summary

The Senior Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship is responsible for the overall vision and direction of RIT’s donor relations and stewardship efforts, as well as the development and implementation of innovative, strategic, comprehensive and successful donor relations and stewardships programs. The Senior Director plans, designs, implements, assesses and coordinates all aspects of donor relations and stewardship programing including acknowledgement and recognition, stewardship reporting, donor events and related communications that strategically target donors at all levels of giving to the university. The Senior Director also provides critical guidance and counsel to the advancement staff and university administration on the viability of key capital and special projects. Specifically, this individual plays a role in constructing operational plans for capital initiatives that include campaign planning and marketing, prospect tracking, reporting to internal constituents and donors on project activities and progress among other essential duties.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively within the Division and across the university to develop and implement a comprehensive and strategic program of donor relations and stewardship
  • Work closely with university fundraisers, senior academic administrators, faculty and staff to build long term donor relations programs that enrich relations between donors and the university.
  • Ensure all donors to the university are thanked properly in timely and meaningful way.
  • Oversee the creation of all stewardship-related reporting that educate, engage, inspire and thank donors for their generosity to the university.
  • Partner with the Constituent Relations staff, university fundraisers and senior academic/unit administrators to plan, coordinate and execute donor recognition events.
  • Coordinate university donor recognition signage; engage campus partners as needed, including the university’s chief architect, and faculty, staff, and administration related to the donor/gift.
  • Evaluate potential naming opportunities for new construction and major renovation as well as virtual spaces without dedicated physical space; develop, implement and maintain standards and policies for capital and special project naming and recognition opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications in developing a comprehensive and strategic marketing/communications plan for donor stewardship.
  • Work on collaborative, cross-campus committees for special university projects and events.
  • Develop, implement and manage all work for the university’s giving societies.
  • Serve as the division’s liaison to the university’s Facilities Management Services for collaboration on capital projects including participating in architect and construction meetings, securing architectural drawings for prospects and communication materials among other duties as needed.
  • Coordinate assessment activity for capital and special project campaigns to ensure feasibility including prospect analysis, campaign timelines, gift charts and goal setting.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of constituent relationship, development or volunteer management experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading project-based teams or staff members
  • Intermediate to Advance level in Microsoft Office with technical aptitude to learn role-specific software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to design, implement and evaluate programs and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends
