SUNY Geneseo is searching for a Communications and Security Specialist. In this role, you will provide communications, security, and public safety services within a 24/7 operation in the University Police Department of the State University of New York (SUNY). Your primary responsibility is to function as a desk officer, performing dispatching activities and using various databases, online systems, and multiple video sources.

Where appropriate, you may perform patrol duties including but not limited to building guard, parking enforcement, foot patrol, and other related duties assisting University Police Officers.

You will be given direction regarding assignments, briefing on current problems at the beginning of the shift, and instruction in job-related law enforcement techniques.

SHIFT:This position works a rotating shift that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. 

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have permanent appointment in a University Police Communications & Security Specialist, SG-10 classified position or be reachable for appointment on the current NY State Civil Service canvass list for a University Police Communications & Security Specialist, SG-10, or be transfer eligible.

New York State Preferred Lists candidates have preference.

For NYS HELPS Eligibility: You must meet ONE of the following qualifications:
  1. one year of full-time experience as a police or peace officer; OR
  2. one year of full-time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement; OR
  3. one year of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military, where you served as a dispatcher of military police/security personnel; OR
  4. thirty (30) semester college credit hours from an accredited school (if you meet this requirement, please include a copy of your unofficial transcripts as part of your application)
Salary49,454.00 - 61,010.00 Annual
