Summary:

The successful candidate must be a self-motivated individual possessing logistics experience in a manufacturing environment with the ability to perform effectively under pressure. The role will be intimately involved in cargo preparation, transportation arrangements, tracking and trade compliance. Team work is essential in this role as the candidate will need to be able to work cross functionally with all departments in the resolution of shipping related issues and driving shipping related improvement projects for the department.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for updating and distributing the Logistics dashboard weekly.
  • Actively manage, analyze, and process Duty Drawback claims with assistance from the Logistics Clerk.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and change awareness of applicable Customs regulations and expirations of rulings applicable to Duty Drawback.
  • Able to assist in safely packaging outbound orders for both parcel and LTL.
  • Prepare and maintain shipping documentation for both domestic and international transportation
  • Schedule and monitor inbound and outbound machine shipments from origin to destination ensuring timely pickups, transit times and deliveries.
  • Attend daily Runoff meeting to ensure Logistics team is set for machines getting close to shipping.
  • Handle carrier communications regarding import tariff classifications and other issues, as well as follow through to resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations such as Electronic Export Information filing and documentation requirements.
  • Assist Finance with month end order reconciliation.
  • Coordinate shipment approvals with other Gleason plants.
  • Train and maintain standard operating procedures for current and new employees with regards to the domestic and international shipping process start to finish.
  • Continuously evaluate current processes and recommend relevant changes or improvements to increase compliance and efficiency.
  • Backfill for small parts shipping personnel as needed.
  • Update and maintain commodity code records in SAP.
  • Capture and report on global transportation spend in aggregate and by mode.
  • Monitor and report on industry trends affecting and cost drivers impacting the cost of transportation. Recommend alternatives, as necessary.
  • Advise on selection of proper Incoterms. Evaluating situational cost differences to determine the optimum shipping mode, lane, and cost.
  • Assist in the landed cost calculations for inbound and outbound products.
  • Act as single point of contact for customs related issues.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a shipping, warehouse and/or production environment desired.
  • Accurate data entry skills with basic understanding of SAP or other business system.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Import and Export Trade Regulations, Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) for tariff classifications and duty rates.
  • Must be able to analyze and present fact-based management reporting with recommendations.
  • Must have detailed understanding of Harmonized Tariff Schedule requirements and Incoterms.
  • Knowledge of Duty Drawback rules, regulations and application to Gleason business.
  • Ability to follow work instructions, effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to read, interpret and process domestic and international shipping documents or contracts in a timely manner; detail-orientation in performing accurate transactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to multi-task.
  • Solid written and verbal skills are essential as well as good interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and results-oriented with a focus on exceptional customer service and quality.
  • Able to work in a cross functional team environment and demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Display a strong sense of urgency in researching, tracking and correcting problems in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem solving capabilities

Preferred Education/ Training

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a Shipping, Receiving, Warehouse and Inventory Control manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity with inventory control systems, ERP systems (SAP preferred) and/or shipping modules such as UPS and FedEx is desired
