Job Summary

RIT’s Office of Pre-College Programs seeks a passionate, experienced, and highly-motivated youth development and education program professional with an unshakably positive attitude for a full-time, year-round Program Coordinator position. Under the leadership of the Senior Director and in cooperation with the Office of Pre-College Programs team, the Program Coordinator will assist the Senior Director in all aspects of development and implementation of the Camp Tiger summer day camp (grades 3-12), as well as, in the development and implementation of compelling youth programming open to the public on Saturdays and during school breaks.

Based out of RIT’s Downtown Center (40 Franklin St.), with the majority of programs, including camp, taking place at RIT’s Henrietta campus.
Must have availability to work on Saturdays as needed and extended days during summer camp (generally the month of July).

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the RIT community (faculty, staff, students) to identify program themes reflective of RIT areas of expertise and RIT culture.
  • Recruit, hire, and train RIT students for the role of camp counselor/outreach assistant (academic year and summer). Monitor work of student workers and provide coaching towards performance improvement.
  • Assist the Senior Director in all aspects of camp development, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and youth safety standards.
  • Ensure that camp activities and programs are safe, engaging, and are intentionally designed to foster interest and sense of belonging in STEAM and at RIT.
  • Helps create and foster a strong sense of teamwork and cooperation among camp staff and within the Office of Pre-College Programs.
  • Collaborate in the seasonal development of program registration processes, the annual camp guide, marketing materials, and a participant recruitment/outreach plan.
  • Provide onsite coordination and leadership for summer camp, Saturday and school break programs, and special events, including Imagine RIT and the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium sub-regional competition, in support of the Office of Pre-College Programs.
  • Liaise with the RIT Project Lead the Way Office and coordinate collaborative programming.
  • Communicate effectively with youth, their parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming camp environment.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance for positive youth development.
  • Provide mentorship to RIT students interested in careers in youth development.
  • Coordinate campus experiences for visiting youth organizations and schools (field trips).
  • Represent RIT’s Camp Tiger in the community.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to all participants and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

The Program Coordinator must:

  • be able to participate in activities that may involve sitting or standing for long periods, long periods of walking, and lifting supplies up to 25 lbs.
  • have regular access to transportation to enable travel between sites and be able to qualify (LENS) to drive RIT vans.
  • Experience working with youth and at summer camp is required.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of camp experience
  • 3 years of experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • 3 years of team leadership experience
  • 3 years of experience in the design and implementation of educational/camp programs for youth.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons or other tabletop role-playing games
  • Experience supporting neuro-diverse youth and/or staff
  • Significant knowledge of RIT
  • Familiarity with ASL
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
