Job Summary

Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology is accepting applications for the position of Budget Analyst. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information for the college, including but not limited to budget projections, monthly payroll and revenue reconciliations, summer salary processing, Principal Investigator (PI) support, and preparation of reconciliations of externally- and internally-funded grants, capital, gifts, endowments, special projects, and discretionary accounts analysis. This is a salaried, full-time position (40 hours/week), reporting to SCB’s Director of Administrative Operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical support to propose and refine budgets. Analyze, review, and report on operating accounts (including detailed salary tracking), start-up funding, capital, endowment, grants, gifts and discretionary account spending, summer programs, and EMBA programs.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and advise on budget options and implications, review expenses to ensure conformance, and highlight relevant financial items. Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial summary to each department head and the Dean, highlighting relevant financial trends and impacts.
  • Assist/train new/existing departmental budget heads in understanding operating budgets, restrictions on gifts, uses of capital and discretionary balances, and provide guidance to administrative staff on financial operations.
  • Prepare budget projections for Provost’s Office (quarterly and annually)
  • Complete and update the Payroll Workbook and PCN reconciliation monthly to ensure PCN’s and salary dollars are on target with plan. Resolve issues and prepare correcting journal entries as needed. Track and report Permanent FTE information. Includes preparing and maintaining summary of unfunded and underfunded salaries.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigators (PI’s) and department administrative staff to provide post-award financial management of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements, including:
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the requirements of sponsored programs administration including the application of cost principles, administrative requirements, and audit requirements
    • Attend project initiation meetings (PIM’s) to gain a thorough understanding of awards
    • Assist in preparing budgets for grant proposals. Act as a liaison between SCB, Sponsored Research Services (SRS), and Sponsored Programs Accounting (SPA).
    • Ensure accuracy of project transactions through review and certification of project statements
    • Prepare and monitor cost-share commitments
  • Assist with complex analyses such as profitability/new program cost analysis and college strategic accreditation initiatives to help management with making program decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for increased efficiency in systems and procedures, and create, update, and maintain college standard operating procedures.
  • Other financial reports ad-hoc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting, finance, budget, business administration or related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Skills:
  • Experience working with an enterprise-wide financial system
  • Advanced PC skills and extensive experience with MS Office
  • Financial planning and strong analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates unwavering integrity, ensuring ethical and consistent leadership across all areas of responsibility
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
