St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities
St. John Fisher invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Educational Technologist. The Educational Technologist will serve as an academic liaison to faculty across all five Schools, working with faculty one-on-one, and in small and large groups to assist them with integrating technology in their courses as a means to enhance student learning and engagement. A primary responsibility of the Educational Technologist will be to support the University’s 1:1 Apple initiative, including technological and pedagogical guidance for the use of iPads in the teaching and learning process. The Educational Technologist will also provide ongoing support on a variety of other educational technologies, including the course management system, Brightspace. The successful applicant also will help faculty explore tools and technologies, including generative AI, that can support student learning in both traditional and online settings. The Educational Technologist, working in collaboration with the faculty and staff, will be specifically responsible for the following: Working across campus to support the University’s Apple 1:1 iFisher initiative. This includes attending events to promote and explain the initiative, participating in iPad distribution events, and overseeing the professional development of faculty, staff, and students on the many ways their daily work can be enhanced using Apple products and software. Meeting with faculty on an as-needed basis to assist them in developing and creating technological enhancements to their courses. Tools used in developing these enhancements can include the University’s CMS (Brightspace), VoiceThread, Turnitin, Respondus, and more, along with generative AI tools or features within existing toolsets. Functioning as a liaison between faculty, administration, and the Office of Information Technology. Responsibilities include training faculty on the use of educational technologies, serving as a point of contact in the event of difficulties using these technologies, and providing on-going support for general educational technology questions. Conducting regularly scheduled workshops to introduce and inform faculty and staff about the availability, application, and use of the suite of supported educational technologies and pedagogical sound teaching practices. In partnership with the DePeters Family Center staff, propose new ways to enhance teaching and learning, promote innovation, and foster purposeful, meaningful, and creative integration of technology across campus. Maintaining a presence on campus as a technology contact and serve on a variety of committees as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience
Experience in classroom and online teaching at the college level is preferred. Qualified applicants will hold a master’s degree or higher, preferably in educational technology, instructional technology, education, human-computer interaction, information technology, or a related degree.
Competencies / Skills
The successful candidate will be experienced using and managing learning management systems, have knowledge of HTML/CSS and be proficient with iPads and Apple native software applications. The Educational Technologist will be able to work effectively in teams in the roles of leader and supporter as appropriate and will be familiar with contemporary learning theory and instructional design. The Educational Technologist must have effective verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative working philosophy.
