Description of Duties
This is a skilled position located at the Department of Transportation responsible for highway, bridge and culvert repair and maintenance. Duties involve performing a variety of skilled and manual labor, construction, and shop equipment operations including sign and pavement marking installations, and the operation of construction equipment under a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes, and various work schedules. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a Highway Maintenance Mechanic I, Senior Highway Maintenance Mechanic, Traffic Operation Supervisor, or other higher-level staff member. Daily work is assigned with detailed instructions from a higher-level crew member. Employees are required to move material in excess of fifty (50) pounds. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus six (6) months paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in maintenance, repair, or construction involving a combination of two (2) or more of the following skilled trades: masonry, carpentry, pipe installation, asphalt paving, welding, metal fabrication, pavement marking installation and sign installation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid New York State Class *D* driver’s license at the time of appointment.
