Position: Weekend 7AM-7PM Hospice Aide
Responsible to: Care Coordinator
Special Conditions: Possible need to assist at the time of death of resident, often alone with resident and family, with a nurse on call.
Job Description:
An Aurora House Weekend Aide provides complete hands-on care as needed for residents receiving end-of-life care at Aurora House Comfort Care Home. The Weekend Aide works under the supervision of the Aurora House Care Coordinator. This person possesses compassion, is patient-focused, and is a dependable professional.
Duties:
- Following the set care plan for resident
- Preparing and serving meals/snacks as requested by the resident
- Assisting with bathing, personal care, and dressing
- Monitoring changes in client’s mental and physical status
- Assist residents with medications
- Review and make appropriate entries in the resident log as needed.
- Provide shift report to nurse before the end of shift.
- Ensure safety in and around the Home by minimizing hazards such as icy conditions, wet floors, and poor lighting.
- Maintain and protect client confidentiality
- Engage in attitudes and actions compatible with the Aurora House mission and philosophy.
- Light housekeeping
- Additional functions permissible under special circumstances
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must hold a valid NYS Department of Health HHA/CAN Certification OR at least three years experience as a Primary Caregiver offering hands-on care.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English sufficiently to understand and interpret the resident's Plan of Care, document care provided, and call Nurse to report any change and/or issues pertaining to residents
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation.
- Must have phone/cell phone availability
- Internet resources (e-mail, Google Drive)
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 30lbs from waist to chest level regularly.
- Must be able to descend and climb stairs on a daily basis.
- Must be able to squat, bend, or reach to retrieve supplies from lower shelves/cupboards located 4 inches above floor level and above head several times daily.
