The work involves the performance of moderately difficult clerical duties involving the full-time or substantial part-time operation of a keyboard. The work is performed under general supervision permitting the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. Specific instructions may be given for new or unusual assignments. Direct supervision may be exercised over the work of one or more subordinate clerical employees. Employees in this class may be assigned to produce acceptable copy by manipulating an alphanumeric keyboard and reviewing information on a display screen, which may require training to develop and/or increase these skills. In the County service, this employee is primarily involved in overseeing a complex clerical procedure which may not involve steady or recurring supervisory responsibilities. A Senior Typist does related work as assigned.

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE:An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis.
