Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Advises and supports the business, research, education and clinical leadership of their assigned departments, divisions, units or schools on the effective planning and implementation of marketing, outreach, engagement and communications plans with specific objectives and key performance indicators consistent with the URMC strategic plan.

Partners with operational leadership to understand and articulate the business context and objectives of their assigned areas. They provide recommendations for creative, messaging and/or media strategy and work collaboratively with the creative, communications and web strategy teams as well as external agencies and vendors for the successful, timely and cost-effective implementation of plans.

Acts as the project manager for marketing and communication plan components by establishing schedules, due dates and budgets. Responsible for communicating progress both in-person and through written management presentations in terms of campaign implementation and project status as well as campaign effectiveness based on plan objectives and key performance indicators to both the leadership of their assigned areas and to Marketing and Communications leadership.

The Senior Marketing Strategist is highly knowledgeable about their assigned areas in terms of the types of services or activities provided (the product), the target audiences and their needs, competition or obstacles hindering the achievement of objectives and the drivers of growth (i.e., provider referrals, direct-to-consumer promotion, etc.). Applies their understanding of how marketing, outreach and communication can be employed to help the leadership of their assigned areas accomplish their objectives. Finally, they work closely with the creative, communications and web strategy teams and outside agencies and vendors and has an understanding of their processes, methods, and expertise to effectively manage campaign and plan implementation.

Provides support for non-assigned areas depending on leadership priorities, bandwidth and the intensity of work from assigned areas, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

URMC Department/Division/Unit Business Support

  • Serves as a member of the management team(s) in designated URMC lines of business and/or departments and other area(s) as may be assigned.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the overall business strategy by partnering with the administrative leaders to identify, prioritize and develop marketing and business goals.
  • Assists with providing support to departments for developing brand strategy, competitive intelligence, category trends, marketing strategy, regional development, campaign development, reporting and analytics and marketing technology.

Marketing & Communications Plan Development

  • Applies professional expertise to develop marketing and communications plans to achieve the objectives of assigned URMC areas.
  • Develops integrated marketing and communications approaches to advance business goals. Collaborates actively across the Communications group (Marketing, Public Relations and Web Strategy) to strategize and conceptualize solutions that integrate outreach activity, creative concepts, new content and message placement in traditional and digital earned, owned, and paid media.
  • Applies best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery and evaluation of marketing services.

Campaign Management

  • Manages campaigns and projects to effective completion including initial strategy development, collaboration with the internal creative, communications and web strategy teams and external agencies/vendors, review of work in progress, internal Communications team approval, presentation of concepts and work-in-progress to service line leadership, production and market implementation.
  • Manages a consistent workload of active projects on a schedule and within approved budget parameters.

Planning and Consulting

  • Serves as a marketing and communications consultant and creative contributor for projects as needed. Consultative elements include, but are not limited to: developing original marketing and communications plans, identifying target audiences and matching to appropriate channels, analyzing and drawing insight from a competitive analysis, conceptualizing, outlining and/or implementing strategies and tactics for complex projects, such as service line or departmentally-focused campaigns.

Campaign Reporting

  • Tracks and presents the results of campaigns including key performance metrics and ROI measures to the Strategic Communications leadership team, URMC department leadership and URMC senior leadership as needed.

Professional Development

  • Pursues professional development by enrolling in internal or external ongoing professional education and attending appropriate local and national conferences. Stays abreast of current trends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or related field required;
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 5 years of relevant and progressive experience required;
  • 10 years of relevant and progressive experience preferred;
  • Supervisory or management experience preferred;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Experience in creating and implementing strategic communications plans with proven results preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and HIPAA consent authorization process required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing content required.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong organization and project management skills preferred.
  • Extraordinary ability to deal with multiple, competing priorities with minimal supervision required.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team required.
  • Experience with data analysis and metrics, PowerPoint presentations and/or graphic design preferred.
  • Ability to manage administrative projects, make sound decisions, and support design and implementation of new programs required.
  • Ability to translate strategic plan concepts to creative and content direction to yield effective and engaging tactical solutions preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $70,197 - $105,295 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the jobs compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
