Job Title: Paraprofessional II
Location: CP Rochester – Winton Road Facility
Salary: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour commensurate with experience
Employment: This is a full-time 37.5 hours per week position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday - Friday 8:15 am-4:15 pm.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in an early childhood education setting.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to professionally lead peers on a team.
- Demonstrated ability to take direction from supervisory staff.
- Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on assignments.
- Demonstrated acceptance of and sensitivity in interacting with people with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to accept feedback.
Summary/Objective: To act as the primary team member in supporting the classroom teacher and providing for the well-being, education and supervision of children in the classroom.
Essential Functions:
- Imparts agency philosophy of “Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential” to children, families, program staff and community resources.
- Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
- Performs all job responsibilities in support of children, families, program staff and community resources by following CP Rochester’s mission, vision and guiding principles of respect, integrity, service and excellence
- Works the following daily schedule: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday)
- Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
- Functions as the primary assistant to the classroom teacher, ensuring a meaningful educational experience.
- Functions in the leadership role in the classroom during the teacher’s absence.
- Works with individual students or groups of students on instructional projects to achieve individualized goals for each child.
- Performs both instructional and non-instructional duties under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Assists the classroom teacher in all children’s activities throughout the day, including preparation of children’s snacks.
- Supervises children at all times, including pool lifeguard management supervision and physical education, busing and transitional activities.
- Assists in physical care tasks and health related activities as appropriate.
- Assists children with behavioral/management needs.
- Functions as a positive, contributing member of the classroom team and demonstrates consistent, nurturing manner toward all children.
- Maintains classroom cleanliness and the orderly appearance of classroom equipment, supplies and displays of children’s work.
- Shares all relevant information related to classroom children obtained from various sources with the classroom teacher.
- Attends meetings, and participates in conferences, workshops, and in-service training to enhance job skills and personal growth and development as assigned by classroom teacher and Program Director.
- Adheres to Agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and Program Director.
Competency Requirements:
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to follow 1:1 Aide Plans and consult with Special Education Teacher.
- Ability to relate to children and reinforce lessons taught in class.
- Understanding of classroom procedures and management.
- Understanding the developmental levels of children, as well as appropriate behavior management techniques.
Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Environment: This job operates in a preschool classroom environment. This role uses standard office equipment.

Environmental conditions include: noise conditions and injury exposures.
Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day (as needed), but employee may be expected to travel to a residential house in emergency situations.
