Description
This position involves the provision of temporary paid work experience in which the incumbent is furthering his/her education while receiving actual work experience relating to the business operations of a public employer. Such work will be performed under the supervision of a regular governmental employee or employees within the scope of a work plan established at the onset of employment. Does related work as required.
Examples of Duties
- Work activities will vary depending upon the specific work plan and operations of the public employer, however activities will typically include duties such as the following:
- Conduct research, analysis and prepare reports regarding specific operations or programs of the employer;
- Assist with studies and associated collection work that may involve fieldwork in the community;
- Participate in and assist with inspections appropriate to the government’s functions;
- Prepare and distribute surveys regarding specified topics and collect, tabulate and analyze associated data;
- Perform clerical tasks such as: data processing, copying, filing, simple bookkeeping and other similar office tasks;
- Attend and participate in meetings and training as directed;
- Collect data, prepare visual aides, and assist with the preparation of materials for educational or demonstrative programs;
- Participate in or conduct presentations to staff or to public groups relating to specific governmental operations;
- Carry out other basic tasks associated with the operations of the public employer;
- May run errands as required; and
- Perform other related duties as directed.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Basic knowledge of research techniques including the use of Internet research tools; ability to perform simple analysis; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to work effectively with others; good powers of observation; ability to take direction; initiative; tact; good judgment; resourcefulness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Typical Qualifications
Graduation from high school or the possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
Supplemental Information
Candidates may be required to possess a current New York State driver's license at time of appointment depending upon the specific duties associated with the assignment. If required, such license must be maintained throughout the period of employment.
NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position. However, Livingston County residents will be given preference in the hiring process.
