Description Overview

The Head of Software Engineering and Product Management will be responsible for leading the technical vision, strategy, and execution for our HCM and payroll platform for the SurePayroll business. This role will work closely with the executive team to define and deliver product roadmaps, manage the engineering team, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions that meet the needs of our small business customers. A key aspect of this role is a customer-centric approach, ensuring that our products and services are designed and developed with the customer's needs at the forefront. Critical for success beyond functional area expertise is strong leadership, demonstrated ability to collaborate in a highly matrixed environment, and exceptional communication.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical product management and engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, customer-centricity, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for the transformation of our platform, with a focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives and customer expectations.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of our product’s architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and alignment with corporate strategy, standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee the development, and launch of new product features and enhancements, ensuring they are customer-focused and add value.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions with success measured by but not limited to, system up time, defect rate, page load times, quality and velocity.
  • Manage ROI analysis (in partnership with Finance and Commercial teams), resource allocation, budgeting, and timelines for product development projects.
  • Ensures that security and compliance requirements are built into systems architecture and to identify, evaluate, and select security solutions to meet security and compliance needs
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and competitive landscape to inform product strategy.
  • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and internal teams, ensuring a customer-centric approach is maintained throughout.
  • Attract, build and retain strong talent showcasing a track record of mentorship, development, and organizational design that builds high performing teams and a strong culture
  • Lead the strategic planning for the engineering department, including technology roadmaps, tooling, and processes.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards and best practices for software development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering - Required
  • Advanced Degree: Computer Science, Engineering or Business - Preferred
  • 10+ years of experience of senior leadership roles in a product engineering organization (with at least 5 in a leader of leaders role for software development and engineering and/or technical product development).
  • 5 years of experience building/leading in a platform transformation.
  • 5 years of experience in Modular Ecosystems.
  • 5 years of experience in Security experience in a senior technical leadership role, preferably with B2B SaaS platform, FinTech, HCM or payroll industry.

Compensation

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $220,000 - $240,000 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. If you are hired at Paychex, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
