Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general guidance of the director of admissions, this position supports the recruitment and application/audition processes for prospective students interested in the Eastman School of Music. The job also includes processing application materials, participating in recruitment events, both in-person and virtually, and generally interacting with prospective students and their families.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prospective student interaction
- Correspond and meet with prospective students and families, and communicate the institutional mission, programs, goals and admission practices of the School.
- Present information sessions for prospective students and their families, in-person or online.
- Travel to represent Eastman at college fairs, school visits, and conferences as assigned. Travel is mostly domestic, covering the entire United States, but can also include international travel, primarily to Canada and Asia, as needed.
- Facilitate interactions between prospective and current students.
Application review and scheduling
- Evaluates, reviews, and recommends admissions decisions as a first and second reader on approximately 400+ applications for annual admission cycle.
- In consultation with area faculty, evaluates, reviews and recommends applicants for merit scholarship consideration to scholarship committee
- Serve as the principal contact and admissions counselor for assigned departments throughout the application process
- Respond to inquiries about application requirements, repertoire selection, etc.
- Responsible for decisions about fee waivers, late application requests, special circumstances, etc.
- Schedule auditions/interviews for assigned areas.
- Liaise with faculty re. audition/interview schedules
Coordinate with other counselor/schedulers for creation of a highly complex audition day schedule involving all areas of the school’s facilities and most of the faculty.
Virtual engagement coordination
- Coordinates virtual engagement events, such as webinars and other virtual presentations with oversight from senior Admissions staff,
- Collaborates with other admissions staff and faculty on virtual components of audition days and yield events.
Student worker coordinator
- Work with Recruitment Program Manager to train student as tour guide/ambassadors.
- Communicate with ambassadors and admissions colleagues about assignments and schedules, especially as they relate to virtual engagement.
Recruitment travel coordinator
- Tracks office of admission travel throughout the year
- Coordinates registration for events off campus
- Looks at office travel wholistically, and works with colleagues to make sure that travel aligns with office plans and goals moving through the cycle
Special projects, annual updates
- Updates, populates Slate application/portal testing
- Creates annual updates to website, admissions material
- Conducts research projects, database maintenance
- Receives final transcripts for enrolling students, and prepares files for Registrar.
Other
- Continues growth and development in the admissions domain through attendance at conferences, workshops, (etc.) as a participant, panelist, presenter, and or moderator; remains current in the field, implements best practices, and incorporates knowledge into practice
