Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

As the Technical Expert, the Audio Engineer manages and supports professional recording, broadcasting/streaming, sound reinforcement, and video production services and infrastructure for live musical and non-musical performances and events.

The Audio Engineer supports faculty and students by engineering Film Scoring Sessions, Recording Sessions, Opera Sound Design, Video Sessions, and Teleconferencing. They provide project management, client liaison, and engineering support for public events, recording sessions, video sessions, classes, and Internet2 master classes in performance halls and other public spaces. The role is responsible for all aspects of the recording and filming process, including pre-production planning, editing, mastering, and content post-production for recordings including commercial releases.

The Audio Engineer is responsible for managing, documenting, and maintaining assigned recording and video infrastructure. They assist with technical design, purchasing, project management, and documentation, and act as consultant and advisor to Eastman's leadership, faculty, staff and students. They research, inform and recommend new technology directions and projects for the organization's audio and multimedia infrastructure and applications and train members of the Eastman School community to learn professional recording skills.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uses highly skilled expertise in sound engineering to directly manage live event recording (audio and video), livestreaming, & sound reinforcement (in traditional and non-traditional venues).
  2. Manages & coordinates pre-production collaboration with internal (students and faculty) and external clients.
  3. Using highly skill engineering expertise, manages & completes post-production process (edit, mix, master) and delivers professional quality audio & video files.
  4. Maintains equipment, documentation & trains others on processes.
  5. Makes purchase & system design recommendations, assists with project management & timelines for implementations & equipment recommendations. Continually attends professional development through conferences, classes, seminars, and self-study.
  6. Acts as a technical subject-matter expert and engineer for Film Scoring, Opera Sound Design, Recording Sessions, Video Productions, Teleconferencing, Distance Learning, and Radio show production.
  7. Manages transfers of audio files for archive requests related to degrees, recitals and other performances, future reference and historical preservation.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Degree required; Bachelor of Science preferred.
  • 4 years of experience required.
  • Record, Editing, Mixing, Mastering, Sound reinforcement, Broadcast, Production, Audio Engineering, Video Production; Ability to read music, including a full orchestral score;
  • Thorough understanding of analog and digital audio signal flow, digital audio workstations, digital video workstations;
  • Confident team player with proactive positive approach;
  • Excellent customer service, creative problem solving and communication skills;
  • Self-motivated, able to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure

Pay Range

Pay Range: $26.90 - $37.66 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the jobs compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
