Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for conducting criminal and administrative investigations on matters related to Monroe Community College. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Investigations and under the general supervision of the Chief of Public Safety. The Security Specialist - Investigator's duties include but are not limited to the following:
Conducts follow-up investigations of criminal incidents and other matters as directed;Conducts interviews of victims, witnesses, complainants and suspects involved with incidents;Maintains liaison with the Prosecutor's Office and other law enforcement agencies to further investigations and prosecution of offenses;Develops written and statistical reports regarding investigations and campus crime;Maintains sufficient knowledge of court decisions and changes in the law that affect investigations and department operations;Conducts background investigations on prospective or new College employees;Catalogs and safeguards evidence;Coordinates and conducts surveillance operations including camera positioning, alarm installation, and observation posts;Follows case investigations through to arrest or appropriate referral and until resolution is achieved;Provides and conducts in-service training;Prepares or reviews information and depositions to be presented in court;Other duties as directed by the Chief of Public Safety.MCC Expectations:

Required Qualifications:
Must currently hold the title of Security Specialist - Investigator or meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible to take the next scheduled exam for this title: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
A) Three years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as a police officer or deputy sheriff; OR,B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college with an Associate's degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Administration, or other criminal justice field plus one year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in A) above; OR,C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of A).Must possess a current and valid NYS driver license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possesses current New York State police officer or campus peace officer certification;Thorough knowledge and understanding of New York State laws;Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough investigations and exercise good judgement;Demonstrated ability to interview victims, witnesses, complainants and suspects;Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Salary: $29.84 - $38.22 / hour
Pay Transparency Disclaimer: The posted salary range represents the full salary scale for this position, which includes all pay steps within the range. The starting salary for all new hires is typically at the entry-level figure, as determined by the step placement of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Progression through the range occurs over time based on established criteria such as length of service and performance. This range is provided to give applicants an understanding of the potential earnings over the course of a career in this role.
