The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) seeks applicants for a lecturer in the Humanities, Computing and Design program beginning in fall of 2025. This position will join a multi-and interdisciplinary faculty in a growing major. The selected candidate would be expected to teach 8 courses per year, with reductions due to agreed-upon service to the program, which may include administrative work, advising, and/ or outreach that extends the value and branding of the HCD program. We are especially interested in candidates using digital technologies, platforms, computational methods and creative practices that cross disciplines and examine issues of contemporary, social importance in many forms and modalities.
Preferred areas of focus include: Digital Humanities, Artificial Intelligence, Data Visualization, Project Management, Software Development, New Media Design, 3D Design, and Computational Linguistics.

Department/College Description
Humanities, computing, and design is a dynamic field of study that integrates the traditional liberal arts with advanced digital skills found in computing, information sciences, digital design and development, digital storytelling technology, and interactivity in new media. The purpose of this degree is to create a bridge between the traditional liberal arts and the digital world, where critical thinking, cultural awareness, inclusive frameworks and diverse communication methodologies must now integrate with digital and emerging technologies. Emphasizing creative project work, cohort production and critical exploration of digital technology across multiple contexts, the program integrates diverse knowledge systems and encompasses progressive and innovative uses of technology.

The College of Liberal Arts is one of nine colleges within Rochester Institute of Technology. The College has over 150 faculty in 13 departments in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The College currently offers fourteen undergraduate degree programs and five master’s degrees, serving over 800 students. A new Ph.D. program in Cognitive Science is broadly interdisciplinary with several partner units across the university.

Required Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
- Have an advanced degree (MS, MA, MFA, PhD) in Digital Humanities, Digital Media, or a related field in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences or Computing, prior to the position start date;
- Demonstrate effective teaching potential for a wide range of courses in the Humanities, Computing and Design curriculum, specifically the 5 core courses in the major as well as advanced elective courses, such as program management, team and leadership development, and capstone projects;
- A proven record of teaching, preferably higher ed instruction and interest in teaching in the preferred areas of focus above;
- Demonstrate student-centered focus, interest in curricular design and assessment, experience in student advising and commitment to retention of underrepresented students and student-success initiatives;
- Experience working in a studio, lab or collaborative production spaces, on collaborative projects, and/or within collaborative programs. Preference for interdisciplinary experience in these spaces;
- Evidence of potential for extending the value and branding of the HCD program (e.g., research, grant writing, collaboration with industry);
- Be able to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences and be committed to retention of underrepresented students and student-success initiatives.
