Monday - Thursday 1:30pm - 10:00pm
Friday 1:00pm - 9:30pm


Additionally, flexible scheduling/work hours may be required during break week, summer and intercession. In addition, large institute events may require additional hours (such as commencement (graduation) and Imagine RIT Festival). Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays and be on-call as needed.

Assists the Dining Manager with overseeing daily food service operations including staff, fiscal, and operational management for one or more full service dining halls, coffee/bakery, convenience stores, or quick service dining locations. Manages customer issue resolution in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals. Identifies work unit needs and contributes to the development of unit processes and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements and oversees workflow processes and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to a diverse workforce. Directly supervises food service staff including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, and training staff and overseeing their productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring, performance management, and termination for full-time staff and direct responsibility for making these decisions for part-time student employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring full-time and student staffing levels are met and maintained within established labor cost requirements.
  • Responsible for oversight of opening and closing food service unit(s) and securing the operation.
  • Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities. Responsible for creating an overall welcoming and professional environment.
  • Assists with budget development and management, management of inventory levels, and overall financial viability of operations. Evaluates and implements cost efficiencies.
  • Assists with monitoring contracts and communications with vendors regarding product purchases and contract compliance.
  • Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership.
  • Serves as Manager on duty in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Carry out special projects and assignments as requested by leadership.
  • Provides coverage to other dining facilities as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree / Certification in Food Service, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or related field and/or 4+ years’ experience in a high volume restaurant, country club, or institutional setting with at least 2 of those years in a supervisory role.
  • Operational experience with a variety of food service applications and computerized menu management systems. Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and applications as needed.
  • Servsafe certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Allertain certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire

  • Ability to follow New York State and Monroe County health codes as they relate to health, sanitation, safety, overall cleanliness and upkeep of facility.
  • Assists General Manager with oversight of all staff including front house staff, culinary production, menu planning and culinary leadership.
  • Possess an awareness and basic knowledge of allergens, food sensitivities and dietetic restrictions. Work with the customer and registered dietician in resolving potential diet limitations of the customer.
  • Produce financial reports to evaluate cost and efficiencies for the unit.
  • Understand and comply with all institute and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work professionally, ethically and with integrity; uphold the vision, mission and core values of the University.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and point of sale systems.
  • Follows established procedures to order products from RIT approved vendors.
  • Report to work on time, wear proper uniform, adhere and enforce departmental and university policies.
  • Carry out special assignments as requested by leadership.
  • Attend meetings and seminars as requested by senior leadership.

About RIT Dining
RIT Dining supports all meal plans both on campus and at select off campus locations. We are looking for a high energy team member that enjoys working in a busy environment serving customers. The successful candidate will need to be able to work with a diverse student work force which may include of deaf / hard of hearing, and internationals students. Hours would change for breaks, intersession and summer semester. This position may support serving from 1500 to over 3000 customers (faculty, staff and students) in any one location on a daily basis.
