Description
This title is responsible for the receipt, storage and disposition of recovered or impounded motor vehicles and property at the Auto Pound Facility. The position calls for a considerable amount of public and police contact requiring tact and courtesy. Employees are required to lift heavy objects weighing 75 lbs. and work a flexible schedule which may include night, weekends and holidays. Work is performed in all weather conditions and is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. Related work is performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
Accesses FBI CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) for information;
Assists owners in the redemption of vehicles by locating lot space, examining ownership and identification documentation and completing paperwork;
Tabulates and collects redemption charges, using a calculator or cash register and providing change and receipts;
Processes intake of impounded vehicles by logging the condition of the vehicle, assigning ID#, lot location, and videotaping vehicle condition;
Assists tow operator in the placement of vehicle in assigned location;
Answers telephone inquiries regarding impounded vehicles and redemption procedures;
Notifies owners of recovered stolen vehicles in impound lot;
Prepares unclaimed impounded vehicles for auction by cleaning the vehicle, removing any unclaimed property and moves vehicles within the impound/auction site;
Completes Cash Register report at end of work shift;
Patrols impound lot on a regular basis to insure the security of vehicles and property and completes shift security report;
Operates a computer to retrieve vehicle information.
High school diploma or G.E.D.,
PLUS
I or II of the following:
I. Six (6) months experience in maintaining records such as logs or inventories;
OR
II. Familiarity with vehicles as demonstrated by six (6) months experience in an auto lot, car sales and service or auto body repair.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
:
Possession of a NYS Class D Driver’s License.
This licensure must be maintained throughout employment in this title.
