Job Summary
The Safety Systems Coordinator, reporting to the Safety Systems Supervisor is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, inspecting & testing fire alarm & fire suppression devices and systems following state and federal regulations within the university apartment complex areas. Additionally, installs, inspects and services portable fire extinguishers within all apartment areas & inspects facilities shops & inventory areas to ensure compliance with OSHA work safe standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct monthly Health and Safety Inspections and OFPC Inspections for all of Housing (communication, inspections, follow-up, tracking).
- Install, inspect and service all portable fire extinguishers within university apartment complex common areas and individual apartments on a monthly basis.
- Coordinate all notifications of inspections and respond to inquiries and feedback from residents.
- Maintain a database to record inspections and results, prepare summary reports as requested.
- Manage inventory of all fire related inventory utilized within the apartment complexes.
- Identify code and safety issues within Housing areas and make recommendations for remediation. Follow up on same through to completion.
- Respond to reported fire system alarms, diagnose the problem, and coordinate corrective action to reset the alarm.
- Identify code issues and violations within apartment areas & maintenance shops.
- Facilitate introductory training for Auxiliary Facilities staff and student workers on care of safety systems and devices used within housing areas.
- Respond to alarm troubles and supervisory signals reported by fire/safety systems, as necessary diagnose problems and perform necessary corrective actions to restore systems functionality.
- Manage electrionic database and required hard copies of all chemical MSDS sheets. Perform annually chemical inventory for EH&S.
- Participate in development of safety awareness training for students & Auxiliary Facilities staff.
- Other Duties As Assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with a strong focus on customer service.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- NICET Fire Alarm Testing and Maintenance Systems Level I certification or ability to obtain within 1 year.
- Cross Connection Control Foundation of the Niagara Frontier INC. Backflow Tester Certification or ability to obtain within 1 year.
PLEASE NOTE: The individual hired for this position may be required to have a pre-employment Motor Vehicle check, and the Motor Vehicle Report must clear RIT's Safe Driving Policy (please refer to page 4) depending on the area the individual is assigned to. Preferred Qualifications

RIT Auxiliary Facilities and Auxiliary Services are responsible for maintaining and repairing the facilities and mechanical systems throughout RIT housing including all facilities within Global Village. The primary focus is to accomplish daily work orders, manage custodial tasks, and preventative maintenance tasks in a cost efficient manner while providing support services that exceed our customer's expectations.
