About the function: Our mission is to drive the future of material innovation through cutting-edge research and development, creating solutions that are both high-performing and economically viable. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Material Scientist, Polymer Scientist or Polymer Physicist to join our team and lead our ambitious research and innovation efforts.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Material Scientist, Polymer Scientist or Polymer Physicist with a strong background in the structure and property mechanisms of materials, particularly in the areas of plastics and hydrogels. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in managing scientific teams, driving research projects, and fostering innovation. Experience with green technology and sustainability initiatives is also valued, although it will constitute a smaller portion of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead research and development on polymer materials with a focus on their structure-property relationships.
  • Develop and optimize new materials, particularly plastics and hydrogels, for a variety of applications.
  • Manage and mentor a team of scientists, providing guidance and support to drive their professional growth and project success.
  • Drive innovation in material science through strategic planning and execution of R&D initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance material performance and functionality.
  • Utilize advanced characterization techniques to analyze and improve material properties.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest scientific and technological advancements in material science and polymer chemistry.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the intellectual property portfolio through patent filings and documentation.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and green technology projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or MS in Material Science, Polymer Science, Polymer Physics, Chemistry, or a related field with 5+ years of industrial experience.
  • Extensive experience in the structure and property mechanisms of materials, with a focus on polymers, plastics and hydrogels.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing scientific teams and driving research projects.
  • Strong knowledge of green technology and sustainability practices in material science is a plus.
  • Familiar with various polymer characterization techniques such as spectroscopy, microscopy, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions and work on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Experience in project management and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in industrial or academic research settings.
  • A track record of publications and IP filings.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to material science and polymer technology.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York State, the range of starting annual salary for this role is $105,000 to $160,000.
