Function of Position:
Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Peer Tutors are current MCC students who work with other students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
Foster the development of independent, intentional learners;Help students understand and use effective learning strategiesProvide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings - Information & Computer Technologies (CRC, CPT, CSC, SCR, and OFT courses)
Work within the ICT Resource Center (09-264) to support in-person and remote studentsDevelop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and facultyAttend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semestersAdhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor HandbookPromote critical thinking and problem solvingHelp to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific contentSecondary Functions:
Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoringMCC Expectations:
Adheres to the College Code of Conduct.Contributes to, supports, and maintains an equitable, inclusive, and collaborative College environment.Maintains technological competencies utilized by the College.Commits to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.Commits to professional growth. which includes seeking ongoing training in diversity, equity and inclusion to better serve students.

Required Qualifications:
Current MCC StudentAt least one faculty reference from MCC Information Computer Technologies Department faculty, which must be obtained by way of faculty completion of the "Faculty Reference Form."Experience using one or more of the following: Java programming, Python, Microsoft Office 365 / 2019, Visual Studio, Android Studio, C/C++, Assembly Language, Cisco NetAcademy, Network+, Security+.Course transcripts with As and Bs in the courses for which they wish to tutorTechnology savvy
