The Emergency Communications Department’s Summer Public Safety Intern Program (SPSIP) is a four (4) week exploratory program of study created to give a broad understanding of telecommunications with a focus on Emergency Communications and the Rochester/Monroe County 911 Center. Participants receive training in answering calls, processing information, and review the duties and responsibilities of phone operators in both emergency and non-emergency settings. Within two weeks of successfully completing this course, plus the two-week Hillside YETA course that follows, the participant will be eligible to sign up for an accelerated Civil Service Exam (exam can be bypassed depending on the status of the NYS HELP Program).
