The New Product Introduction (NPI) Quality Engineer is responsible for overseeing the quality assurance process during New Product Introduction (NPI). This role involves collaborating with Quality Control (QC) teams and Troubleshoot Technicians to identify and address defects, leading Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) to improve key performance parameters (KPP) metrics such as First Pass Yield (FPY) and Rolled Throughput Yield (RTY). The individual will utilize statistical analysis to identify trends, prioritize improvement efforts, and lead cross-functional teams of engineers to enhance product throughput.
Essential Functions:
- Drive AQE (Advanced Quality Engineering) activities in support of the L3Harris Product Development Process.
- Work closely with Integrated Operating Engineer (IOE) to guide the NPI team through the required Quality steps and deliverables needed at each phase of the process, from Prototype to Production.
- Ensure adherence to the standard design and development processes for each NPI project.
- Lead the quality activities for NPI projects, such as Kiazen events and Gemba walks to ensuring quality and compliance to L3Harris standards.
- Utilize statistical analysis to identify, assess, and prioritize quality trends and areas for improvement.
- Lead cross-functional quality meetings for assigned projects whose yields are not meeting established target yield metrics.
- Establishes target yield metrics based on existing/like or new product guidelines.
- Utilize quality control and assurance methods to help satisfy project KPPs.
- Proactively manage risks by utilizing Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to mitigate potential issues.
- Perform Process Capability (Cpk) and Test Capability Index (TCI) studies.
- Ensures that major changes in pilot and production designs are validated before introduction using the Change Control Board (CCB) process.
- Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) and scrap review meeting
- Monitor progress of corrective actions and provide regular updates to senior management on NPI quality performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant Quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related Quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related quality experience.
Preferred Addtional Skills:
- Experience using RCCA and problem solving tools and techniques
- Expertise in statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making.
- Expertise in Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
- Experience developing PFMEA’s
- Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and driving process improvements.
- Strong communication and leadership capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Experience with Shainin or Convergent problem solving techniques
- 5S and continuous improvement experience
- Design of Experiments (DOE) experience
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $80,500 - $149,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
