Function of Position:
Dental Studies Tenure-track faculty teach classes, develop new educational materials, assist with curriculum review and assessment, perform professional duties, and participate in departmental and institutional functions, including department meetings and committee work. Tenure-track faculty report to the Dental Studies Program Director, Chairperson of the Health Professions Department, and Dean of STEM and Health. Faculty are responsible for preparing and teaching courses in the program and may be assigned at the Brighton Campus (or other, as appropriate). The successful candidate will bring expertise in Dental Studies to MCC.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledge in their course development and teaching. Teaches courses and evaluates student performance as per guidelines set by the program, department, and Monroe Community College. Teaches multiple courses and sections each term, as outlined by the contract. Prepares course information sheet/syllabi/outlines in accordance with program, department, and College guidelines. Prepares course lesson plans, instructional materials, and activities for student engagement. Establishes and maintains an engaging and supportive classroom environment. Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other records according to department and College guidelines and submits them in a timely manner. Maintains office hours according to program and contractual guidelines to support student learning. Actively engages in student success initiatives at the program, department, and College level. Actively advises students according to contractual guidelines. Actively assists the program and department with student recruitment, enrollment, and placement. Actively assists the program and department with student retention and completion initiatives. Actively assists the program and department with development, review, and revision of program curriculum, including assessment of student learning and program review. Incorporates American Dental Educator Association (ADEA) content guideline recommendations and American Dental Association (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Dental Hygiene Standards in course development and delivery for student success. Is knowledgeable of and prepares students for Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA), American Dental Association (ADA), and Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) license exams in assigned subject matter. Actively participates in program accreditation preparation and site visits. Develops innovative teaching pedagogies to facilitate learning. Incorporates high-impact teaching practices into course design. Attends program and department meetings as a contributing member. Contributes to the College through College, division, department, and program committees. Actively engages in and implements evidence-based pedagogical and academic discipline professional development. Assists the program and department in faculty recruitment and peer evaluation. Actively participates on the program and department retention, tenure, and promotion committee, once tenured. Actively assists in the development of grant proposals and implementation of grant projects. Works independently and in a team setting, demonstrating excellent time management skills to prioritize workflow and multi-task. Teaches 18.65 contact hours per semester. Helps coordinate distance dental hygiene programs with the program director.Adheres to all College and department policies. Works effectively with the program director and other faculty members. Attends program and departmental meetings as a contributing member. Actively participates in professional development. Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the program director. Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the department chairperson. May be assigned courses at any MCC campus or extension site location. May be assigned evening courses as needed by the program and department. MCC Expectations:

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree (or higher), or evidence of actively working toward a master's degree (or higher) by hire date in a related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution. Master's degree must be obtained within four years of hire date. Evidence of post-secondary demonstrated knowledge of current dental hygiene theory and methodology. Evidence of proficiency with educational technology. Four or more years of current experience working as a full-time or equivalent U.S. licensed Dental Hygienist in a clinical and/or instructional setting. An active unencumbered New York State license in Dental Hygiene. Capable of teaching assigned courses within the dental studies program curriculum. Evidence of the commitment to continued professional growth. Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skills. Experience and/or interest in developing and teaching online courses. Evidence of the commitment to supporting an inclusive campus environment. Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs. Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college. Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years working as a full-time licensed dental hygienist. U.S. licensed dental hygiene didactic and clinical teaching experience. U.S. licensed dental assistant with didactic and clinical teaching experience. Post-secondary teaching experience. Post-secondary demonstrated knowledge of current dental assisting theory, methodology, and instructional technology. Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of didactic and clinical teaching strategies. Experience with computerized clinical student record management (i.e. Tal-Eval, Typhon, etc.).
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $60,060 to $73,920 and is based on these mentioned factors.
