Function of Position:
Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Paraprofessional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
Foster the development of independent, intentional learnersHelp students understand and use effective learning strategiesProvide tutor assistance in Biology in one-on-one and group settingsDevelop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and facultyAttend training activities to comply with tutoring requirements and expectations before and/or during semestersCollaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on providing workshops to fill learning gaps of both tutors and students with discipline specific content. The Director of Learning Support Systems will collaborate with the Biology Department as needed.Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor HandbookPromote critical thinking and problem solving Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific contentSecondary Functions:
Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring servicesAssisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned MCC Expectations:

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Associates or working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Biology or Biology-related disciplineTechnology savvyExperience working with diverse college populationsPreferred Qualifications:
Two years of tutoring experienceTeaching experience in Biology in grades 9-12 or at the community college levelBilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Associates Degree - $16.00/hr to $17/hr
