This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the use, application, and maintenance of various types of computer equipment, technology, and systems. The incumbent is responsible for leading teams and performing project management duties. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level employee. Related work is performed as required.- Develops applications and uses for available technology based on the specific needs and mission of the work unit;
- Researches new products and system upgrades based on the needs of the work unit and recommends relevant software and equipment purchases;
- Develops methods, procedures, and approaches to maximize the utilization of technology and systems;
- Serves as system/network administrator/manager, coordinating access, usage, and security;
- Oversees the development of customized reports using software tools and demonstrates how to access, retrieve information from such systems;
- Conducts methods and systems evaluations of operational processed;
- Writes, tests, and updates programs using relevant software tools as required;
- Develops and writes programs of a difficult or complex nature, using relevant software tools, providing appropriate and required documentation, and performing program updates as needed;
- Supervises and trains staff in the proper operation and use of assigned technology;
- Oversees maintenance and repair performed by vendor’s representatives;
- Writes documentation and procedures manuals as needed;
- Maintains an updated record of all user IDs for assigned system(s) and network(s).
- High School diploma or Equivalent AND
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or closely related field AND
- One (1) year experience overseeing the use, operation, and maintenance of various technology applications
Scopes/Subjects of Examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and/or abilities in the following areas.
Preparing written material: These questions test for the ability to present information clearly and accurately, and to organize paragraphs logically and comprehensibly. For some questions, you will be given information in two or three sentences followed by four restatements of the information. You must then choose the best version. For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences.
Programming techniques and concepts: These questions test for basic structures of higher-level computer programming languages and their applications. They cover such subjects as programming techniques and terminology, program documentation, and flowchart interpretation.
Systems analysis and design: These questions test for techniques and concepts of computer systems analysis and design. They cover such subjects as feasibility and applications studies, systems development tools and software, the systems life cycle, types of systems (e.g., client/server, Web-based), controls, and systems documentation, testing, and implementation.
Project management PAP: These questions are designed to test for techniques and concepts of project management. They may cover, but not necessarily be confined to, management of systems development, management by objectives, project scheduling and control techniques (e.g., PERT), characteristics of organizations and of the systems life cycle, and the development of data processing standards.
