Compensation Range:

$27.43 - $35.66

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE
Supervises and directs the activities of Central Services, including supply distribution, storage and inventory, decontamination and sterile processing of instrumentation, and preparation and distribution of case carts to the operating rooms at the ambulatory surgery center (ASC).
Develops and implements standard operating procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards. Supervises a team of central services staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises and directs Central Service Technician staff. Develops specific job assignments. Makes decisions and departmental policy on the selection process, disciplinary action and reviews performance of assigned staff. Provides training and orientation to staff. Schedules staff for daily assignments, performs annual reviews and disciplines staff as needed.
  • Investigates complaints from users and follows through with appropriate action to the inventory manager as designated by the business manager. Responsible for the issuance of credits and returns of supplies for inventory system. Collects and screens requisitions for processing. Verifies accuracy of reports, including Patient Charge System. Coordinates delivery of special requests for specific cases. Maintains inventory and works closely with the inventory manager to ensure proper level of supplies.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with user departments. Serves on Committees. Attends staff meetings and meetings with user departments to discuss operational and service functions.
  • Develops and maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and instrumentation necessary for efficient operation of Central Service. Formulates policy and procedures for the decontamination and sterile processing of instrumentation and equipment. Maintains records in accordance with standards established by the Associate for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). Orients staff to sterilization and decontamination process and record keeping.
  • Assists in the development, interpretation and administration of departmental policies. Provides input for the formulation of capital and operating budgets. Conducts meetings with assigned staff to review and discuss procedures and problems relating to operations and prepares minutes of meetings.
  • Maintains records of function, such as employees, productivity and service. Recommends methods for improvement in these areas.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related supervisory experience required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • If hired on or after January 1, 2014, candidate must pass a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and hold and maintain one of the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization within 1-1/2 years required
  • CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician or
  • CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech or
  • A substantially equivalent credential
  • International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Certification in Healthcare Leadership upon hire preferred
