Function of Position:

The Advisor, LPN-RN Bridge is responsible for recruitment, retention, persistence, and success of Healthcare and Nursing students, with a specific focus on LPN - RN. The Advisor will accomplish this by assisting with recruitment events and providing support services, as listed in the position's primary functions, to both credit and non-credit students.

As a main point of contact for students, advisors are expected to maintain regular presence at the College and provide accessible options for meeting with students.

This position reports to the Manager of Healthcare Programs at the Downtown Campus, and requires working occasional evenings and Saturdays.

*This is a temporary, grant-funded, full-time, 12-mo. position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Liaison with students enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Programs at the Downtown Campus.
  • Collaborates with Success Coaches to identify students who are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and may be eligible for admission to the Registered Nurse (RN) program.
  • Liaison with community partners regarding admission requirements for the CNA, LPN and RN programs.
  • Assists with recruitment and community-based events.
  • Assists with all phases of the application and registration processes.
  • Evaluates and interpret high school and college transcripts as needed.
  • Helps students understand and prepare for the competitive health-related admission process.
  • Ensures that matriculated students are enrolled in the appropriate courses to facilitate program completion.
  • Provides workshops and other activities that are of importance to students.
  • Assists students with setting educational and career goals and provides options to achieve these goals.
  • Helps students identify and address barriers to their education.
  • Assists students with navigating the network of college support services.
  • Maintains consistent communication with students; monitors and responds to student inquiries, such as emails and phone calls within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Documents all student interactions and services provided.
  • Tracks participation and data points per grant requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Secondary Functions:

  • Interprets college policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Participates in events outside of regular college hours, such as advisement events and open houses.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to FERPA guidelines.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director.

  • Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

  • Earned associate's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, and an aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • Experience with BANNER.
  • One to three years higher education experience or customer service experience in a fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to FERPA guidelines.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.

  • Additional Information:

    Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $42,000 to $48,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.

    MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.
