Compensation Range:

$108,483.00 - $162,725.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Serves as the leader of the functional departmental areas, including grant and contract operations, information management, pre-award services, and regulatory/policy analysis. Directs the day-to-day operations and is responsible for hiring, performance reviews and other personnel actions for department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews work of ORPA staff, makes assignments, offers assistance whenever necessary, implements, and updates processes, procedures, and systems necessary for effective operations. Prepares and conducts a regular program of self-assessment and re-engineering for ORPA and its customers to ensure that ORPA services remain efficient, sensible, and customer-focused. Develops an ongoing process to review and simplify all existing policies and procedures which have an impact on investigators and their research. Coordinates training for ORPA, conducts, and leads regular training meetings for ORPA professional staff. Offers training from outside experts or interaction with other sponsored programs offices whenever feasible.
  • Serves as institutional compliance representative for ensuring University-wide compliance with sponsor and regulatory agency rules and regulations governing operating practices for research administration. Recommends, develops, and implements systems and procedures to maximize the University’s ability to respond favorable to agency changes in policies and standards and to minimize the University’s risk of investigation, disallowance, and censure. Reviews, defines, and disseminates policies, procedures or manuals related to Federal regulations, University practice or overall administration of Sponsored program accounts. Works with Dean’s Offices, Sponsored Programs Accounting, University administrators or other University offices to define policies and practices. Drafts responses to audit findings and other complex correspondence.
  • Promotes enhanced and diverse ways to communicate research administration issues and changes to investigators and other ORPA customers. Manages technologically efficient electronic research administration initiatives, such as the University’s Sponsored Programs Management System and Electronic Proposal Submission module. Develops and conducts regular research administration training programs for the University research community. Participates on standing University committees and special University projects as requested. Provides updates at department administrative meetings on current events and policy in sponsored programs administration. Participates on a regular basis with meetings with Dean’s offices and other University administrators. Upon request, presents topics at faculty meetings or departmental meetings.
  • Coordinates and supports the preparation of complex proposals, such as multi-disciplinary, consortium, center, special initiative programs to maximize ability to be funded and ensure University procedures and systems provide the necessary framework to facilitate award and management of the proposed projects. Maintains portfolio of selected departments for centers, such as the independent engineering centers on the River Campus. Performs all research administrator functions for clients. In the absence or shortage of ORPA research administrative staff, shares in work load of research administrators.
  • Maintains knowledge of new regulations and trends effecting sponsored programs administration and the University community through independent reading, networking, and attending national meetings. Participates in professional activities of national societies.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of supervisory experience required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
