The Department of Music & Musical Theatre at SUNY Geneseo is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Music with a specialty in Musicology or Music History to begin August 2025. The department offers a BA in Music with four different tracks (Performance, Musicology/HiTEC; Jazz and American Music Studies; and Music Business, Recording and Production) as well as a BA and BFA in Musical Theatre.
Duties Include: Teaching three courses per semester, including: at least one general education course per year; one section of the college’s first-year writing course per year; introductory and upper-level courses for majors and minors in both western classical music and popular music. Additional position responsibilities include: continued research in candidate’s area of expertise; academic advising; supervising undergraduate research; and service to the college community and to the discipline.

Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Musicology or Music History by time of appointment
- Prior experience teaching courses in music history at the undergraduate level
- Potential to establish and maintain a program of scholarship in area of expertise
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and teaching environment
- Ability to teach seated, remote, and online courses in the discipline and proficiency using state-of-the-art technologies for the classroom
