Description Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing support to the investigative staff of the Police Accountability Board. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the collection and processing of various types of electronic evidence and the preservation and analysis of data from electronic data sources, including laptop and desktop computers, mobile devices and other sources of audio and video. Performs related duties as required.

This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.

A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.


  • Assists Police Accountability Board investigative staff in the collection and maintenance of all types of electronic evidence including audio and video material, as well as electronically stored information;
  • Conducts forensic audio and forensic video analysis in support of investigative needs;
  • Utilizes specialized equipment to process and enhance audio and video data files;
  • Coordinates with the Rochester Police Department and other city departments to ensure that all possible relevant audio and video evidence or other electronically stored information related to a Police Accountability Board investigation has been acquired;
  • Collaborates with the Executive Office and Public Affairs Division to prepare relevant audio and video evidence for reporting, public dissemination, and litigation;
  • Researches and maintains proficiency in tools, techniques, and trends in digital forensic analysis;
  • Advises agency administration on policies and procedures related to Rochester Police Department audio and video material (i.e. body cams, dashboard cameras).
High School Diploma or G.E.D. PLUS:

Bachelor’s degree PLUSone (1) year of work experience in digital multimedia editing and enhancing; computer, audio, or video forensic analysis.
