Overview
St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance for our AACSB accredited business school in Rochester, NY with an anticipated August 2025 start date. The School of Business at SJF, embraces the teacher – scholar model. Faculty are expected to be actively engage with research in their respective fields of study, and through that, provide unique benefits to their students. Faculty in the Department of Accounting and Finance carry a three-three teaching load and are expected to be effective and committed teachers. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiple modalities (i.e., in person, online, and hybrid). The successful candidate is expected to engage in scholarship to build and maintain a strong publication record, produce original research targeted to high quality journals. The candidate is also expected to advise students and perform service to the college and the profession. The successful candidate will be a dynamic academic or professional who enjoys working in a fast-adapting, multidisciplinary environment and who shows enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues within the department and school as well as across disciplines. Faculty are expected to be actively engage with research in their respective fields of study, and through that, provide unique benefits to their students. · Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate finance courses in the areas of investments, derivative securities, fixed income securities, fin-tech and corporate finance. · Conduct and publish original, discipline-based scholarship in refereed journals to enable ongoing classification as “Scholarly Academic” under the guidelines of AACSB International. · Maintain an active research agenda. · Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, advising and mentoring them as they progress through their studies. · Participate in the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes and the overall quality of the business school, including new course development, curriculum design, and assurance of learning. · Introduce new teaching techniques, evaluate student progress, and engage and motivate students through interactive techniques, experiential learning, and other innovative teaching practices. · Collaborate with other faculty members, staff, and alumni to promote the mission of the School of Business and build relationships with the business community. · Provide service to the Department, School, and University as well as to the academic, professional, and surrounding communities. · Share expertise with the academic and business communities through presentations, articles published in the trade press, white papers, etc. · Assist with student recruitment and retention initiatives.
Education / Experience
Required · A terminal degree in finance or related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be completed by August 31, 2025 · A passion for student development and a commitment to advising and mentoring students · Evidence of research and publication potential in discipline-based peer-reviewed journals · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff · Ability to provide proof of permanent right to work in the US on first day of employment Preferred Experiences · Relevant work experience in the investment industry · Prior teaching experience, both in person and online · Professional certification (e.g., CFA or CFP) and experience in working with Bloomberg terminal is a plus · Data analytics · Experience in advising students who manage an investment portfolio · Successful grant-writing Prior work experience with family business and/or business startups
