Compensation Range:

$21.36 - $29.90

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under general direction from the Laboratory Directors and Manager, and with latitude for the exercise of independent judgement, provides specialized data analytics supporting clinical and business needs requiring advanced organizational, analytical, and computer proficiency. Applies statistical analysis methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize quantitative clinical data, creating reports that detail trends in performance and processes, and developing reports to provide usable information, drive decision making, and recommend improvements that benefit the department in terms of costs savings and improved laboratory procedures and patient care.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:

  • Under supervision of Laboratory Directors and Manager

  • Standard office equipment such as telephone, PC, Laboratory Information System (LIS), calculator, copier, fax printer and other similar equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Technical Support (70%)

  • Analyzes data and reports to develop trend and comparative executive summaries to include structured and graphical displays for distribution. With minimal direction and using multiple data warehouses, creates, designs, and develops relevant laboratory and financial reports. Analyzes results and prepares executive summary for delivery. Interprets findings and makes recommendations based upon analysis of information gathered.
  • Works heavily with SQL, Excel, Pivot Tables, Macros, Visual Basic, Access, SOFT LIS, SharePoint, Box, UR Financials Procure to Pay, Jaeggar Marketplace, and other software and databases.
  • Performs preparation and analysis of laboratory statistics, creating customized data analytics tools, conducting research, and creating statistical reports. For variables under examination, assesses data quality by obtaining descriptive statistics for them such as mean, median, and standard deviation. May analyze the distribution of key variables to see how the individual values cluster around the mean.
  • Visually represents complex information; designs, produces, deploys, and maintains metrics, scorecards, dashboards, ad hoc and scheduled reporting, with high-impact intuitive visualization of relevant clinical data, including customized dynamic graphical visualization and mapping.
  • Ensures the integrity and quality of data reporting. Responsible for the validation, timeliness, accuracy, and improvement of the data feeding performance reports, management information, and KPIs.  Takes initiative to conduct root cause analysis of data quality issues and initiate and drive data quality improvement programs.
  • Performs analysis and reporting of several laboratory QA monitors such as COVID TATs, Blood Culture Discrepancies and Volumes, and Viral Loads/Logs for HIV, Hep B, Hep C, & CMV.
  • At discretion of Directors, collaborates with clinical researchers to understand needs and source information that supports laboratory and clinical method development. Performs sourcing and data integration from a variety of databases, combining data residing in different sources and providing users with a unified view.

Financial Operations Support (10%)

  • At discretion of Manager, investigates discrepancies in financial variance reports. Researches, extracts data, and presents findings using a variety of financial databases such as UR Financials Workday P2P. Maintains relationships with other University Departments such as Accounts Payable and Purchasing to track Purchase Orders and payment progress. Calls external suppliers when necessary.

Acts as back up to Microbiology Administrative Assistant and Microbiology Secretary (20%)

Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in a technical or analytic field or an equivalent combination of training and coursework.  Bachelor’s degree with coursework in computer programming, statistics, advanced math, and natural science preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficient in use of spreadsheet software and other specialized computer software, with particular expertise in data analysis and developing reports through use of Excel, Pivot Tables, dynamic graphical data visualization, and development of Macros using Visual Basic.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of databases and software such as SQL, Microsoft Excel and Access, SOFT LIS, Pivot Tables, Macros, Visual Basic, UR Financials Workday Procure to Pay, Jaeggar Marketplace, McKesson/Allscripts PMM Supply Chain Management Solutions (Materials Management Information System, MMIS), URMC IBM Cognos Analytics, Oracle, OnBase. SharePoint, Box.
  • Excellent problem solver and capable of working well with a substantial amount of data and information.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
