Summary and Purpose of the Position:
Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Professional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.
Primary Functions:
Foster the development of independent, intentional learnersHelp students understand and use effective learning strategiesProvide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings - Computer Information Systems
Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and facultyAttend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semestersCollaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on providing workshops to fill learning gaps of both tutors and students with discipline specific content. The Director of Learning Support Systems will collaborate with the Computer Information Systems Department as needed.Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor HandbookPromote critical thinking and problem solvingHelp to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific contentSecondary Functions:
Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring servicesAssisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degreeExperience working with diverse college populationsTechnology savvyPreferred Qualifications:
Master's or Doctoral degreeSome tutoring experience
Additional Information:
Pay rate is determined by candidate's degree:
Bachelor's Degree - $17/hr
Master's Degree - $19/hr
PhD - $21.00
