This role will be out of Macedon, NY (hybrid).
WHAT WE NEED
The Manager HR Benefits and Compliance is responsible for overseeing and managing BRF’s employee benefits programs and ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws and internal policies. This role is responsible for driving best practices and competitive offerings to our employees to ensure that BRF remains a best-in-class employer. The individual needs to be both in the “now” of the business and at the same time thinking of “future state” needs to develop capabilities and offerings within the company while also safeguarding BRF by proactive preparation of compliance programs and minimizing legal risks.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Compliance and Risk Management (incl Audit) – 50%
- Leads the advance review and reporting of compliance updates quarterly. Presents recommendations in advance to HR SLT, identifies priorities, and drives agreed upon action plan to address updates required.
- Establishes a regular cadence to audit various compliance programs and ensure our processes, procedures, and documents are up to date.
- Ensures organization adheres to federal, state, and local employment laws. Act as internal counsel to leaders for legal advisement.
- Manages the periodic review, updates and maintenance, and roll-out of HR policies and Employee Handbooks to ensure alignment with labor laws, company culture and values. Leads and conducts regular risk assessments and audits of HR practices to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Identifies areas of improvement and takes action.
- Successfully manages and administers all compliance activities such EE0-1, 5500, AAP. Includes completion of Nondiscrimination testing for benefits programs in compliance with specified deadlines.
- Partners with Talent and Employee Experience to be the officer of compliance regarding background checks, I9 management, etc.
- Partners with Quality, EHS, and Operations to ensure BRF is audit ready related to BRF meeting supplier workplace standards for our customer requirements. Manages the specific HR responsibilities related to Supplier/Facility On-boarding process, and the Facility SWA Monitoring Engagement Process including SAQ submission, 3rd Party Audit scheduling, on-site presence for audit and worker interviews, and gathering and providing records/documentation as requested during the audit. Acts as an overall lead in the business.
- Establishes and maintains a strong partnership with EHS to ensure compliance with regulations and to promote a safe and healthy work environment through new program initiatives.
- Develops, implements, executes, and oversees comprehensive risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks across the company. Conducts regular risk assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing risk controls and identify areas for improvement. Areas of improvement opportunities will vary and include programs such as the development of a comprehensive union simulation process to assess and mitigate potential risks associated with union activities. This includes designing simulation scenarios, coordinating cross-functional teams, and facilitating training sessions to ensure preparedness and effective response strategies. Monitors and evaluates the outcomes of simulations to continuously improve risk management practices and support organizational resilience.
- Responsible for coordinating initial assessment for new merger or acquisition related to benefits and leads this due diligence process. Drives the actions needed within the HR team to integrate the new location into the company's operations related to establishing employee benefits programs and ensuring adherence to BRF policies and compliance standards. Monitors and reports progress against plan.
- Coordinates with payroll, as well as setting up WC and other state compliance required programs for employees when new states are added through acquisition or through remote employee hires. Ensures benefits and payroll are established and updated in a timely fashion.
- Manages to a process for consideration of employee relocation requests as it relates to compliance with payroll and benefits. Partners with Talent to ensure role classification is considered.
Benefits – 25%
- Designs, implements, maintains, and administers benefit plans such as health, dental, vision, disability, life, and specialty programs.
- Coordinates and negotiates annual contract renewal to obtain competitive pricing and terms.
- Prepares and manages new hire, life event, and annual enrollment, and delivers continued education to employees of BRF’s rich health and wellness programs through various communication channels and workshop programs. Stays current with marketplace offerings to ensure we are giving the employees the most competitive and comprehensive package and introduces new programs accordingly.
- Manages and maintains BRF’s retirement program and vendor relationship, to include ensuring competitive offerings to our employees, educational opportunities, and compliance with annual and routine requirements.
- Educates employees and supervisors about their benefit options and compliance requirements through workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
Leave Management – 20%
- Manages the administration of employee leave programs, including FMLA, disability, PFL, Worker’s Compensation, and other forms of leave, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Partners with legal as needed to ensure proper handling of the intricacies of leave management.
- Coordinates with employees, managers, and third-party providers/vendors to facilitate leave requests, approvals, and returns to work. Ensures maintenance of accurate records and provides guidance on leave policies and procedures to support employee needs and organizational requirements. Ensures employees receive support and education to reduce issues while they are away from their full-time positions.
- Manages the interactive process and employee accommodations. Coordinates with supervisors.
Other – 5%
- Takes a lead role in the implementation project of the HCM system at BRF specific to various modules in the project plan. Ensures compliance and benefits documents in HCM system are reviewed regularly and kept up to date.
- Proactively engages at all levels in the organization to support 24/7, multi-plant operation. Provides timely response to inquiries from employees and managers (our customers).
- Leads HR special projects assigned. Provides backup to other team members in instances of absences, including Payroll to ensure effective coverage.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year College or university, preferably in Human Resources, Business or related discipline.
- Ten (10) plus years of related human resources experience in a generalist/multi-function HR role
- Five (5) plus years of experience in a compliance related field, including experience with taking an internal lead on audit, and developing various risk management programs
- Strong benefits and leave administration hands on experience
- Experience developing and managing full-cycle HR projects including those with outside vendors.
- 1+ year of supervisory experience.
- Manufacturing, production, or related (multiple shifts and locations).
- SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred
At BRF, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $120,000 and $130,000K. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
