Description
This work involves the application of standardized account keeping practices in the routine maintenance and review of financial accounts and records. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor. An Account Clerk/Typist does related work as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Operates a computer in performing the duties described below;
- Classifies constantly recurring receipts and expenditures and distributes costs according to a prescribed code;
- Posts to journal or ledger accounts from appropriation, expense, invoice, payroll, receipts, voucher records and other original entry media;
- Compiles payroll data, prepares and checks payrolls;
- Compiles data for and assists in the preparation of simple financial and statistical reports;
- Prepares forms, form letters, transcripts, invoices, vouchers, records, payrolls, title searches, judgments, reports, index cards, time cards and similar materials;
- Prepares and maintains various types of records;
- Assists in maintaining labor, material and operational cost records;
- Assists in verifying and reconciling account balances;
- Records remittances after computing interest and penalties;
- Files requisitions, vouchers, ledger cards and other material;
- Reviews account keeping records and reports arithmetical and clerical accuracy, completeness and proper extensions;
- Issues receipts for monies received;
- May maintain office supply inventory and order supplies as needed;
- May communicate with outside vendors, insurance companies, County residents and other municipal officials;
- May communicate policy, procedures, and financial information to customers/clients;
- May post payments to customer/client accounts;
- May take meeting minutes; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records; working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to write legibly; ability to get along well with others; skill in typing at a predetermined rate of speed; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment:

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE:
An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis.
