The Department of Sociology at the State University of New York at Geneseo is pleased to have the opportunity to welcome a new colleague to our faculty. Applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2025 are invited. We seek candidates with expertise in criminal justice and criminology, with secondary areas in social psychology or public health, who will also be able to contribute to our core curricular needs (introduction, social problems, statistics, methods, theory).

The Sociology Department has a strong tradition of excellent undergraduate teaching, a commitment to broad training in Sociological theory and research, and an understanding of the discipline as committed to fostering critical thinking about social inequalities and the challenges confronting the pursuit of social justice.

The Sociology Department offers a BA in Sociology and maintains strong ties to a variety of interdisciplinary programs across the college, including Legal Studies, Carceral Studies, American Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Sociomedical Sciences, and Conflict Studies.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teaching three courses each semester as assigned by the Department chair;
  •  Maintaining an active scholarly agenda of research and publication in sociology, preferably involving undergraduate students;
  •  Contributing to interdisciplinary and co-curricular programs across the college;
  •  Providing academic advisement to students;
  •  Mentoring and supervising undergraduate research and professional opportunities;
  •  Performing active service to the department and the college.
Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Sociology by August 2025;
  • Demonstrated record of excellent undergraduate teaching and inclusive pedagogy;
  • Developed research record, demonstrated by success in bringing original research to publication, and a promising research agenda;
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and ability to teach in-person and online.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and teaching environment
