Function of Position:

The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life at Monroe Community College Association is crucial in enhancing the residential experience through shared responsibilities in residence hall programming, technology management, fiscal oversight, and staffing. This position is dedicated to developing and maintaining a vibrant living-learning environment that fosters exceptional experiences for the residential population. The Assistant Director plays an integral role in the administration of housing operations, student engagement promotion, and ensuring a positive community atmosphere that supports student success and well-being.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Housing Operations Management

  • Manage residence hall operations including key management, card access coordination, building condition reports, occupancy management, and housing assignments.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Management team to ensure all housing facilities are well-maintained and meet safety standards.
  • Develop and implement housing policies and procedures that align with Association goals.
  • Student Engagement and Programming

  • Design, implement, and assess programs and activities that promote community building and student engagement within the residence halls.
  • Facilitate leadership development opportunities for Resident Assistants and student leadership.
  • Create educational workshops and resources on conflict resolution, diversity, and wellness.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of orientation and weekend programming for new, current, and transfer students.
  • Supervision and Staff Development

  • Recruit, train, and contribute to the supervision of residence life staff including 2 Resident Directors, Resident Assistants, an Interim Area Coordinator, a Graduate Assistant. and an Administrative Assistant.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins to provide support and guidance.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance their professional growth.
  • Crisis Management and Student Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for student concerns, providing support and conflict resolution as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies and conduct investigations related to incidents or violations of resident expectations and Association policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the first contact for emergency consultation with Resident Director staff.
  • Collaborate with counseling and mental health services to support students in crisis.
  • Serve on the Student Services Behavioral Consultation Team to address, manage, and support high-risk students.
  • Internal and External Collaboration

  • Work closely with academic advising, counseling, and student affairs to create a seamless experience for students living on campus.
  • Participate in campus committees and initiatives to promote student success and retention.
  • Foster relationships with local community resources to support students' needs.
  • Assessment and Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data on student engagement, satisfaction, and retention in housing.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for leadership on housing operations and program effectiveness.
  • Utilize feedback to make informed decisions about program development and improvements.
  • Fiscal Management

  • Assist the Director of Housing and Residence Life with the development and management of the Residence Hall budget and financial matters.
  • Assist in the development of Residence Hall goals focused on student learning and development.
  • Summer Conferencing

  • Oversee all operations for summer conferencing, including contract management, service coordination, building preparation, and summer placement.
  • Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate and timely response to emergencies and crisis situations to provide a safe living and learning environment.
  • Participate in division-wide and campus-wide committees.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the MCCA Executive Director and the Associate Vice President for Student Services or their designee.

  • Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Higher Education or a related field
  • Significant experience in Supervisory Housing Operations including but not limited to crisis management, supervision, information technology, resident education, and student behavior
  • Ability to work successfully with students, parents, college departments, and internal and external constituencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Must possess a clean New York State driver's license
  • Successful completion of a background screening
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education or a related field and significant experience in Housing Operations including but not limited to crisis management, supervision, information technology, resident education, and student behavior
  • Experience with housing management software and student conduct systems (e.g., Maxient)
  • Ability to manage budgets
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing student engagement programs
  • Participation in professional organizations related to Housing and Residence Life and / or Student Affairs
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

  • Additional Information:

    Salary: $55,000 to $65,000 per year plus optional on-campus housing available.

    MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.

    Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short term, temporary basis.
