Detailed Job Description
The Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MMET) department in RIT’s College of Engineering Technology (CET) is currently seeking applications from exceptional candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track Professor of Practice position to support the Mechanical, Robotics & Manufacturing, and Mechatronics Engineering Technology programs.
Position Overview:
Candidates for this position will be expected to teach and contribute to course and laboratory development in one or more of the various fields including:
- Mechanical Engineering: Expertise in the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and thermodynamics.
- Materials Engineering: Knowledge of material properties, selection criteria, and manufacturing processes. Proficiency in materials selection and structural analysis.
- Manufacturing Engineering: Experience in manufacturing processes, automation, and systems integration. Understanding of manufacturing technologies, including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Robotics Engineering: Expertise in robotics systems design, control, and implementation. Knowledge of sensors, actuators, and control systems used in robotics.
- Mechatronics Engineering: Proficiency in integrating mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering principles in mechatronic systems. Experience with embedded systems design, programming, and interfacing with sensors and actuators.
Responsibilities:- Teaching: Develop and deliver courses and laboratories in classroom, online, and hybrid formats. Engage in curriculum development to ensure the programs stay current with industry trends and technological advancements. Student engagement in the classroom using activity based pedagogical strategies expected. Participation in KEEN and other effective teaching workshops is required.
- Course and Laboratory Development: Contribute to the creation and improvement of course content and laboratory exercises. Ensure that students gain hands-on experience with modern engineering tools and practices.
- Service: Contribute to the department, and college, through curricular committee work and other service activities as required. Participate in student advising and mentoring to support student success and professional development.

THE COLLEGE/ DEPARTMENT:
The College of Engineering Technology (CET) is home to nine undergraduate and six graduate programs. It is one of RIT’s nine colleges and enrolls approximately 12% percent of the university’s students. The Department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MMET) is home to approximately 850 students and offers three Bachelors of Science and one Master of Science Degree Programs. Each program specializes in providing an experiential learning environment through integrated laboratory activities, innovative projects, and applied research. To gain real world experience, each student completes a year of co-operative work experience in industry. Required Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Robotics Engineering, or a related field, with 5 years of relevant industry experience, or
- Master’s degree in a related field with 10 years of relevant industry experience, or
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 15 years of relevant industry experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, Robotics, or Mechatronics.
- Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
