Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Communication
RIT’s School of Communication invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in communication to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate should have expertise in AI and communication (broadly defined), as well as in a related area such as social media strategy/analytics, digital storytelling, digital advertising, or production-based courses. We are seeking a scholar who will serve as an instructor, researcher, and mentor to students in our undergraduate programs (Communication B.S., Advertising and Public Relations B.S.) and graduate programs (Communication M.S.). The position requires a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring, active research and publication, and a strong potential to attract external funding. Teaching and research are priorities for faculty at RIT, and all faculty are expected to mentor students through advising, research and in-class experiences.

Department/College Description
RIT’s School of Communication offers BS degrees in advertising & public relations and communication, and an MS degree in communication. The school has 24 full-time faculty members.
Our school is dedicated to outstanding teaching and individual attention to students. Our undergraduate and graduate curriculum emphasizes applied theory and practical knowledge with an interdisciplinary focus. Students can take cognate courses in the colleges of business, computing and information sciences, and art and design.
Faculty in the school conduct and publish research and creative works related to all forms of communication. The faculty can pursue professional interests in the broader Rochester region.
The College of Liberal Arts is one of nine colleges within Rochester Institute of Technology. The College has over 150 faculty in 13 departments in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The College currently offers fourteen undergraduate degree programs and five master’s degrees, serving over 800 students. A new Ph.D. program in Cognitive Science is broadly interdisciplinary with several partner units across the university.

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in communication or a closely related field by August 2025
- Have demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in communication or closely related field;
- Have demonstrated teaching ability and have taught college courses independently.
- Have demonstrated ability to teach courses in AI and communication (broadly defined) and one or more of the following areas: social media strategy/analytics, digital storytelling, digital advertising, and production-based courses.
- Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
